Vitamin B12 (also called cobalamin) is one of eight water-soluble B vitamins. It plays an important role in DNA and RNA synthesis and is needed to synthesize S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), which helps the immune system function properly and affects mood.1 B12 is necessary for normal nerve cell activity and the creation of red blood cells.2 B vitamins are used when converting carbohydrates into glucose to produce energy.3

B12 is often called an "anti-stress" vitamin because it is believed to enhance the activity of the immune system and improve the body's ability to withstand stressful conditions.4 Vitamin B12 deficiency is linked to fatigue, irritability, and impaired memory.5 Supplementation with Vitamin B12 may assist in increasing energy levels, improving mood, and fighting fatigue.6

The ability to absorb B12 decreases with age. In one study, 15 percent of adults over 65 years of age showed evidence of B12 deficiency. This may be attributed to the common use of gastric acid-blocking agents, which may inhibit the release of B12 during digestion. B12 deficiency is also common in strict vegetarians and people that have had stomach surgery.7

Other Ingredients:

Sorbitol, fructose, mannitol, croscarmellose sodium, natural cherry flavor, silicon dioxide, lecithin, and vegetable magnesium stearate.

ALLERGEN WARNING:
CONTAINS SOY (LECITHIN)
CAUTION:
Do not exceed recommended dose. Pregnant or nursing mothers, children under 18, and individuals with a known medical condition should consult a physician before using this or any dietary supplement.
Suggested Use:

1 tablet taken 1 to 3 times daily preferably with meals or as directed by a healthcare professional. For best results, chew tablet thoroughly before swallowing. TRANSCEND's Vitamin B-12 contains 100 tablets per bottle.

Folic acid (folate) is also essential to DNA synthesis. It is one of the few nutrients that works better when taken as a separate supplement than as part of food. Folic acid is included in TRANSCEND's B12 supplement because of their intertwined functions.

It is very difficult to properly absorb B12 through the digestive tract. For this reason, the vitamin is often taken intravenously, which can be inconvenient, painful and expensive. Our sublingual product is designed to absorb quickly into the system by dissolving under the tongue and entering the bloodstream directly. This method allows for maximum absorption of the B12.

From the FDA's website: "As part of a well-balanced diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol, Vitamin B12 may reduce the risk of vascular disease. FDA evaluated the above claim and found that, while it is known that diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol reduce the risk of heart disease and other vascular diseases, the evidence in support of the above claim is inconclusive."
